This year The Nexus has printed 12 issues, and each was the product of countless hours of dedication from more than just The Nexus staff itself. It takes a village to make a newspaper. We would like to thank those who made the creation of The Nexus possible this year.
First, we extend our gratitude to the many students who have generously taken time out of their day to answer our questions, give their insights, and share their stories with us to publish in the newspaper. We appreciate every story told; they are what keep our newspaper authentic and representative of our community.
We would like to thank Charlotte Isbister and Steve McLaughlin for the expertise they contributed to our sports section as well as Robert Townsend, Mitchell Way, and Keith Opstad for always greeting questions about the arts at Westview with a smile. We appreciate all the Westview staff who are consistently willing to be interviewed. Your insights and additions to our articles are greatly valued.
To Ester Berry and Tara Appling for helping us schedule meetings with administrators, we appreciate your cooperation in communicating with our writers. And, to the Westview administrators as well, thank you for your open communication with The Nexus and your encouragement of support of student journalism.
To district personnel who consistently answer our questions, and especially to PUSD Board Member Dr. Darshana Patel for being one of our most enthusiastic supporters, our ability to stay well-informed on district news is thanks to you, and we appreciate the time you take to assist us in this way.
To our many generous sponsors and advertisers, we appreciate your commitment to supporting local journalism. Your contributions make printing possible.
To Currents, we have enjoyed sharing our workspace, photos, and ideas with you all year.
We would also be remiss not to mention Melanie DelaCruz’s fourth-period Honors English classes. We have loved gathering ideas from you, mentoring you in your writing, and getting to know you. Thank you for your enthusiasm in participating in book clubs and Monday get-to-know-you activities. We can’t wait to see what you do next.
To Abe Lauricio for always cleaning up L104 even on late-night press nights — thank you for always making sure our work environment is clean and well cared for. And, to Steven Kramer, we are grateful for you driving stacks of newspapers from the office to L104 on Thursday mornings.
To Kelly Barth at Gardena Valley Web Offset for his dedication to The Nexus in the final stage of our production. We appreciate that we can always trust that our newspapers will be printed properly and delivered in a timely manner thanks to your continued assistance.
To Melanie DelaCruz for your advice, artistic eye, and supervision on press nights; being a past Nexan yourself, the insight you bring to our staff is irreplaceable. And, of course, to Jeff Wenger, we appreciate all that you do for The Nexus. Your passion drives us to write above and beyond what we thought was achievable.
Finally, and most importantly, we would like to thank our readers — students, staff, families, and community members. Your interest in the articles we publish motivates us to continue sharing the stories of Westview. Seeing students around campus reading The Nexus fills us with immense joy, and having the Wolverine community as our audience is the best inspiration. We look forward to The Nexus’ future at Westview, continuing to serve as a platform through which we can learn about each other, forging connections through understanding.
