The PizzaRev in the Torrey Highlands plaza announced that they were permanently closing, Feb. 24. PizzaRev has stayed media quiet during this time with no announcements related to this location’s closure.
Former employee Thea Roy (12), who had worked there up until its closure, said that the employees of the Torrey Highlands location were not informed of the reason for closing and weren’t aware of the store’s impending closure until the day of.
“The morning shift was working when the owners called and told them to leave everything as it is because they’re permanently closing,” Roy said.
Managers, according to Roy, did not disclose any other details and left the employees to leave in confusion. Attempts to reach PizzaRev by email and text were unreturned. PizzaRev declined to respond to a request for an interview.
Roy said that in the months leading up to the closure, business seemed to be booming. Considering its proximity to a high school, the pizza shop got a lot of business from students. Many Westview students have posted on social media about how they would visit the location regularly.
“I used to go there all the time with my friends,” Juliana Stapleton (9) said. “It was just a great place to hang out after school.”
The pizza place often had many customers. “[On] Fridays and Saturdays there would be a lot of teenagers that came in, which was good for business,” Roy said.
While the closing was seemingly unexpected, there were several signs of the business closing. One thing that pointed to PizzaRev’s decline was its signature “Rev Tuesday” $7 drink and personal pizza package deal being terminated weeks before the store’s closure.
“They started giving employees less and less hours,” Roy said. “There were just little things happening.”
Once the restaurant told the public its closure, the “Off the 56 Home Team” Instagram page posted an official announcement, which multiple Westview students reposted to their own stories on the app, including Stapleton.
However, this is not the first time PizzaRev has closed one of its restaurant locations without comment or explanation.
According to Restaurant Business, since 2016, the number of PizzaRev locations has decreased from 44 locations in 2016 to now only one in 2024. The PizzaRev company was sold in September of 2021 to the Amergent Hospitality group in an effort to “put the company back in growth mode,” according to “Nation’s Restaurant News” website. However, the closing of restaurants did not cease.
As of March 10, PizzaRev has not commented on the closing of the Torrey Highlands location or whether the single remaining location, located in Corona, will be following suit.
