Bella Weilhammer (11) and Leilani Aboy (11) ran unopposed for senior class president for the class of 2025. The two friends are currently the junior class presidents and said that they are excited to continue their partnership. As junior class presidents, they tackled the task of planning Prom, pep rallies and other events.
“Prom was our biggest project we had been working on since February,” Aboy said, “We got to bring an event to life.”
The pair plan to focus on events for the seniors and making the most out of the year for their class.
“[We are planning] the senior harbor cruise and other class trips,” Weilhammer said. “We are also planning other senior activities to bond our class, such as senior sunrise and senior sunset”
While they were friends before sharing their class president role, Aboy said their relationship strengthened as class presidents. Being able to share openly and collaborate well helped the girls have a successful year together.
“Taking on this role together has really strengthened our friendship,” Aboy said. “Since we have been good friends for a while, we were never afraid to critique each other and share different ideas to make an event better.”
The two girls have a lot of experience from their lengthy ASB careers. Before being the junior class presidents together, they had other jobs in ASB.
“Aboy has been on the video audio media [committee] since freshman year,” Weilhammer said. “She filmed videos such as the Westview Experience, otherwise known as the yearly recap.”
Bella also had a role other than being in the ASB class.
“Bella was in the culture committee,” Aboy said. “[She planned] events like Unity Day and other cultural events.”
Aboy and Weilhammer have been in ASB since their freshman year. Aboy said this gave both of them a unique viewpoint by being consistently involved in campus culture.
“It’s given us a different perspective on high school,” Aboy said. “We got a behind-the-scenes view of all the events that go on as we’ve planned a lot of them ourselves.”
Weilhammer and Aboy’s roles in ASB and experiences over the years have given them lifelong skills.
“We’ve learned a lot of business strategies, especially as class presidents,” Aboy said. “We can apply skills we’ve learned to a lot of future opportunities such as internships and careers.”
For their last year in high school, Aboy and Weilhammer said they are aiming to make lasting memories.
“We ultimately hope to create bonds and connectivity between our class,” Aboy said. “especially for this last year we all have together.”
