President Donald Trump announced yesterday that former national security adviser Michael Flynn would be a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, citing his “integrity and courage in the face of a corrupt system.”
“He’s the first person I personally know to lie to the FBI, admit it, and get away with it,” Trump said. “If that’s not deserving of the medal, I don’t know what is.”
The Department of Justice, led by Attorney General William Barr, dropped all charges against Flynn and said in a statement that “Flynn has served President Trump well, and he deserves a break from the law.”
When asked by reporters about his guilty plea, Flynn replied, “My lawyers just respected the rule of law too much, and I was wrong to trust the deep state.”
